New To Jazzercise?
Welcome to Jazzercise! We're looking forward to seeing you in class! To help you on your way, here are a few tips to get you started.
What to wear: Dress to exercise. Wear something that will be comfortable and will allow you to move freely. Wear supportive sneakers...cross-training or aerobic sneakers are terrific for Jazzercise.
What to bring: Bring along a bottle of water, a mat or large beach towel for floor work and if you have them, bring a set of light hand weights (1-2 lbs to start). Most importantly bring a positive attitude and a big smile and you're sure to have fun!
When to arrive: On the day of your first class please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class. You will have a little paperwork to fill out in order to get you registered. This will also give you a little time to meet and chat with the instructor before the class begins.
What to expect: A regular Jazzercise class will last approximately 60 minutes. You will begin with a warm-up followed by 30-35 minutes of cardio. The final 20-25 minutes of class will include strength training that will target your upper torso (arms), abs and legs and stretching.
Take it at your own pace: Jazzercise is geared toward all fitness levels, ages, shapes and sizes and when you walk into your first class that's what you'll see! People just like you! Instructors are certified to teach modifications for every routine and movement. You can do the cardio section with either high or low impact movements. Strength training routines can be done standing, sitting in a chair or sitting on the floor.
Don't worry: Everyone makes mistakes, right?! Every student and instructor remembers their first class. I remember that I had a blast! I was also on the wrong foot for most of the class but I was having fun and moving...that's what counts. The more you come the easier it gets.
